Donations

We are a small independent museum which receives so Government or MoD funding. We are reliant on the generosity of donors to stay open!

  • Financial Donations

We are a registered charity (No 272965) and rely heavily on the generosity our visitors to help maintain and improve what is part of the history of the County of Hampshire.

If you would like to make a donation to the Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum, please either send a cheque payable to

    The Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum
    Serle’s House,
    Southgate Street,
    Winchester, SO23 9EG

or donate via our PayPal account by clicking here

  • Object Donations

We are currently most interested in acquiring items from 1939-1992, including uniforms, photographs, and items from World War Two, Borneo, Hong Kong, and National Service (list not exhaustive)

The museum holds a large object and archive collection so has limited space for further objects. We therefore have a strict collections policy in order to ensure we hold items that are both relevant to the Regiment’s history, and that we can care for in the correct manner.

If you wish to donate an object to the Museum you must first contact us HERE

    Please include the following information:

    • Your name and contact details
    • A description or list of the items you would like to donate
    • Information about the items that helps us understand its importance, e.g. family stories
    • Details of how you came to own the items

All proposed donations are assessed by a Collections Committee which meets quarterly to ensure that they are not duplicates of something we already hold, and they are a suitable size and condition that can either be displayed in the galleries or stored safely while not on display.

Please do not send or deliver potential donations directly to the Museum unless asked to do so.

  • Staff are not able to take receipt of items without prior notice. Items posted to the museum or left at the museum without contacting the curatorial team first will be returned to sender or if we cannot return items they will be held for four months and may be disposed if not claimed.

Please be aware that the Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum is unable to cover the return postage of items deposited at the Museum that are unsolicited donations, and/or declined by our Collections Committee. The donor will be notified if the items are not accepted by the Museum, and can then either collect themselves or organise a courier.

Successful donors will be contacted to arrange delivery and completion of paperwork for our records. This paperwork transfers ownership of the object to The Royal Hampshire regiment Museum, and once signed the item(s) become part of our permanent collection.

This is a legal process, and once donated, you are not able to return to reclaim it at a later date if you change your mind.

We do not accept loan items unless required for a specific temporary exhibition.
