RARE Unissued cap badges from the Royal Gloucestershire and Hampshire Regiment, ‘the Regiment that never was’.
Due to the British Army restructure of the 1960s following the end of National Service, in 1970 the Royal Hampshire Regiment was reduced to Minden Company (company strength), in preparation for amalgamation with the Gloucestershire Regiment. Fortunately the amalgamation never happened and the 1st Battalion Royal Hampshire Regiment was reformed in 1972 from Minden Company. The amalgamation was so close however that much of the uniform had been produced but never issued.
