1939-45 Star

This medal was awarded for service in WWII between 3rd September 1939 and 2nd September 1945 to members of the Royal Navy with six months service afloat in areas of active operations; to army personnel for six months service in an operational command. Airborne troops qualified if they had participated in any airborne operations and had completed two months service in an operational unit. RAF personnel qualified if engaged in operations against the enemy. Non-aircrew personnel had to complete six months service in the area of an operational army command.

Defence Medal

This medal was awarded to service personnel for three years services at home or six months service overseas in territories subjected to air attack or otherwise closely threatened. Personnel of Ant-Aircraft Command, RAF ground crews, Dominion forces stationed in the UK, the Home Guard, Civil Defence, National Fire Service and many other civilian units qualified for the medal.

This reproduction Defence medal is made from lead-free pewter. It is supplied on a green, black and orange ribbon attached to a card with an image of a the Home Guard training to use a Vickers machine gun on the front and historical information on the reverse.

 

France & Germany Star

This medal was awarded for operational service between 6th June 1944 and 8th May 1945 in Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany. Service in the English Channel, North Sea and Bay of Biscay in connection with the campaign in northern Europe also qualified.

Africa Star

Awarded for one or more days service in North Africa between 10th June 1940 and 12th May 1942. Royal Navy personnel qualified with any service at sea in the Mediterranean within those dates and in support of campaigns in Abyssinia, Somaliland and Eritrea. Naval service ashore in the same areas as the Army also qualified as did members of the Merchant Navy in the operations off the coast of Morocco between 8th November 1942 and 12th May 1943. The Army qualifying operational areas included Abyssinia, the Somalilands, Eritrea and in Malta.

Italy Star

This medal was awarded for operational service on land in Italy, Sicily, Greece, Yugoslavia, the Aegean area and Dodecanese islands, Corsica, Sardinia and Elba at any time between 11th June 1943 and 8th May 1945.
